Greeneyez
Greeneyez is up for interview this month…

Real name:
Rosalind Mary Johnson
Date of Birth:
5th November 1980
Sex:
Female
Approximate location:
Exeter, UK
How did you become Greeneyez?
I got the nick soon after starting to use IRC back when I was in school. I decided that I was bored of using my name as a nick or changing nicks a lot so people didn’t know me, so I went for my defining feature - my green eyes. I was always Greeneyes back then however. I didn’t graduate to Greeneyez until university. One day I just fancied a change.
How did you discover #exeter?
Because I didn’t move to Exeter until university, it wasn’t until then that #exeter came into my life. I had tried to get onto IRC a few times but I never knew the details of the proxy server or EZ-bounce. Then I started to get to know a certain Damian Lee in Mardon and he set me up so I could use both ICQ and IRC through the proxy server.
How long have you been chatting in #exeter?
Since January 2000, so about 3 1/2 years.
What things frustrate you the most? How do you usually cope with them?
The thing which frustrates me the most is being away from my friends. I’m a very social person and get a bit lonely when away from everyone - so this last year was very difficult for me. I’m making up for it now that I’m back in Exeter, though.
How long have you been online and how long have you been on IRC?
I think we first got online at home the summer of 1996 (my dad was always one of those to do computer things first - he was one of the first at work to ever get a computer…an Apricot if I remember correctly, back when I must have been titchy because he brought it home when I was 8 because he was getting a newer one at work). I didn’t get on IRC however, until the upper sixth (must have been 1998) when a girl at school gave me a very early version of mIRC on a floppy disk and said she used Undernet. It was so old it was all grey and didn’t know how to do coloured text. She was a shy girl though and hardly used it - I became much more hooked than her and was made an op in a popular channel. She hasn’t really ever used it at all and I don’t see her on IRC ever. I introduced her to ICQ and that’s much more her scene. I didn’t move to EFnet until I discovered #exeter.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievements to date? Why?
This is a really difficult one. I don’t think I’ve achieved very much to be honest. Probably getting my degree and being Webmaster at uni are the best things I’ve done.
You have been known to sip martini, is this inspired by Sex and the City?
Would you like to visit New York and spend a day living the high life? Martini has been in my life a lot longer than Sex and the City. It was my drink of choice when a group of my friends and I went on a holiday to a static caravan in Yorkshire when we were all 15 or 16. I smuggled the bottle from my parent’s drinks cabinet in the centre of my sleeping bag! Sex and the City just rekindled my love for the drink. New York - yes please!
Do you have any interests in real life? If so what are they and how involved are you with them? Do you find your online life hinders or compliments them?
My interests would be James, playing the Sims, Angel and singing. My online life certainly compliments the first 3 and has recently really helped the last one too. A certain other member of #exeter and myself have been developing a few songs at long distance aided by the internet.
Do you cry over spilt milk?
Only in ecstasy!
How do you think other people perceive you in the channel? Do you think your online persona mirrors your real life persona?
I think people perceive me as someone who complains about everything, a lot. I think that’s pretty accurate for real life as well. I also get a lot of people coming to me for advice - not sure why. Maybe they think I’ve done a lot of things or maybe I’m just the channel gossip and am actually interfering! Haha.
Since you have been living with JamesOff have any of your household skills improved or have you got him running around in a pinny?
I’m always feeling guilty about not having washed up when I should have. I really hate washing up and leave it as long as possible all the time. James hasn’t said anything but I think he secretly thinks I need to improve that one! James does his fair share - he makes a lot of cups of tea and toasties for me
Can you draw a picture of a guinea pig? Please attach evidence in the form of an image file.

What is the most ‘dodgy’ item you have been bought?
Ooo there are quite a few that are much too dodgy to reveal here. I will therefore recount the weirdest Christmas present my mother was given a few years ago by some dodgy guy at church - a bottle of anchovy essence! What the hell was going through his mind when he was thinking of great present ideas?!
If you could go on holiday anywhere and any when where would you go and who would you take with you?
I’d really like to travel the whole continent of America sometime when I am still young enough to do everything I want to. My father grew up in both Canada and Argentina so I’d love to go to both places and see where he lived. I’ve always wanted to go to all the places in my favourite movies in the USA because as a kid I was always a little exhibitionist, acting out my favourite bits from the movies. I would definitely have to take James - can’t imagine taking anyone else!
Where would you like to see yourself in five years time? Do you think you will be able to achieve it?
It’s a bit of a dream, but I’d really like to see as many close #exeter people living together in the same town. Nothing makes me happier than being with my friends and it’d be really great if we could all be together and go down the pub whenever we want, without coordinating a military manoeuvre!
What was the least complimentary thing a teacher wrote about you in a school report?
Blimey that’s a difficult one. I think it was probably GCSE French. “In all my history as a teacher I’ve never known someone speak so confidently in such a great accent and not have a clue of what on earth she was saying!!” God’s honest truth that’s what she said. Probably explains a lot to some of you.
If you could sum up your experience of #exeter in one word, what would that word be?
Rollercoasterish.
And finally, who from the channel do you think I should interview next?
Well looking at the stats at the moment, I think it should definitely be the guy with the biggest mouth on the channel - Mr Kevin Smith.
Thank you Greeneyez for offering your often enlightening answers to my questions. Next month I will look forward to interviewing Kev.
