The #exeter First Annual Census

Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Here are the results of the census. They are in no order of importance, just the order in which i received them (so you can see who needed some persuasion hahaha!) Entries are pretty much copy and paste to show your beautiful individuality. All i’ve done is make bold your names for easy reading.

If you are yet to contribute, IT’S NOT TOO LATE! View the instructions post for information on how to join in.

Discuss the #exeter First Annual Census here!

Enjoy

moving in with [monica], looking forward to see Christel and LJ again, and looking forward to go back to exeter to see Greeneyez and Jamesoff marry.

Name: Alex Brown (axle@efnet)
I am currently ‘the’ “ICT Sys Admin” for the 6th largest port in the UK (and largest in Wales), Milford Haven Port Authority….. at the moment, I am looking after a client machine base of around 100 workstations - approx 90 of them are based in Pembrokeshire, and the remaining are spread across the UK at various outposts like Stansted, Exeter, Falmouth to name a few. The rest of the job involves looking after 3 telephone systems comprising around 250 extensions, maintaining the network infrastructure, website stuff, and generally playing around with any new technology I can get my hands on for a reasonable price. When/if at all possible, I will always try and get out the office to play around on boats in or around the Dock.
Big news…. erm, well, there is none really - the social life down this neck of the woods is minimal to say the least, especially living 6 miles from the nearest town in the middle of nowhere. In the coming years, I am looking for a complete getout of IT related activities to move on to something like merchant navy, tug skippering or something would be my preffered job.

I said it was really interesting :/

Cheers,

LIVE: I am currently residing in Australia however I am either going to Bristol or Badsheepy is coming to Australia it depends if he can get over his fear of living in a country full of sheeps.

Work: I have a masters in literary communications and when employed I prepare scientific documents for various Government Departments. I am an independent contractor which means better money but not steady work. I sometimes write short stories for magazines. I have real estate that I rent out to tenants.
Hmmm sometimes I manage Badsheepy when he gets delusions of being emperor of the world.

Big News: I am going to buy a farm with Badsheepy and raise miniature donkeys.
Or we might continue making up news. Or I could finish the novel my publisher nags me for constantly.

At the moment, Im working for Thanet District Council down in sunny(?!) Margate. In the evenings I relax with random tv, a few beers, and more freelance work / talk with my girlfriend and rack up huge phonebills.
Big news… May be leaving the council and moving to work in London in the new year, and have just split up with girlfriend of 4 years and started going out with a new girl (who is unfortunately 1800 miles away at the moment. Go me!)

So as to prove that it requires no talent at all to makes things rhyme, I’ve written this piece in the style of The Streets…

I’m working in Birmingham but living in Warwick
The town’s really cool and extremely historic
Although I probably should have lived closer toward Brum
I couldn’t find anywhere that wasn’t caked in scum

The commute to work’s annoying - but I have a sense of humour
So I undertake BMW’s in a new Ford Puma
This clearly required getting a new credit card
But when you work for bank then it aint’ very hard

Working in finance seems to be pretty cool
Haven’t met many people who act like a foo
Although I’d still rather be driving a plane or tank
The cash here is better - although the hours are just… pony

Anyway - I guess I better go and do some proper work
Sitting at my desk writin’ this is a bit of a cheeky shirk
Actually I should go to town and buy some tasty lunch
Damn - the retailers in Soluhill are such a cunch of bunts

- - - - -

Name: Badsheepy
I fill my day being shouted at and told off by Aislinn. and also practising my secret martial arts.

Name: Lenale (irl Anna Baas)
I am currently living in the beautiful Aerdenhout (which is between Leiden and Amsterdam). I might move to Leiden in a year or two… definately NOT to Amsterdam, which is big, smelly, noisy and has far too much motorized transport to be healthy for day-dreaming, irresponsibly-streetcrossing girls.

Reading Physics at Leiden University, no idea what I’m going to specialize in yet.

The most recent Big Thing in my life is turning geek about a year ago (I used to be all normal, reading Law and using Hotmail and stuff :) ).

I’m working for a building contractors part time in the office doing accounts and general officey type stuffs. With of course the compulsory flirting with the boss (The pay rise still hasn’t been oked yet :() I gave up college after the carpentry and hair course I did last year in favour of earning some money for the first time in my life. Scarey but fun.
Ooh big news.. Not sure I have anything to put here. I could say the biggest most resent thing is getting a job but then I’ve always considered my biggest achievement being my kids. No not a million! Just 4 :p The biggest future achievement could well be the bottle of ouzo I’m about to try. If I survive I think it’ll be one worth bragging about :D

Some indication of how you fill your day (in a serious way) e.g. where you are working, or if that’s too detailed, what you do in your job, where you are studying…whatever.
I am currently a full time property manager for the apartment building that I live in and also hold a part time job as a computer lab monitor at my college. I am studying for a dual major in IT and Business Management.

One thing that you consider big news about yourself, that’s either happened in the recent past or will be happening in the near future.
